Episode 8: Matthew 5:20

A commonly misunderstood Bible verse is Matthew 5:20, which states that to enter the kingdom of heaven, our righteousness must exceed that of the scribes and Pharisees. Many people claim that Jesus' point is that the scribes and Pharisees were very religious people; therefore, we must be even more spiritual than they were to enter into heaven. 

But what if Jesus wasn't using the religious leaders as a positive example? What if Jesus used them as a negative example? What if Jesus' point was that the kind of righteousness that grants you entrance into heaven must be categorically different than that of the scribes and Pharisees?
